Collecting and validating environmental and safety key indicators

Our CR indicators reflect our business structure by covering our Gases and Engineering Divisions (core divisions) as well as our Gist division (logistics services). Our health, safety and environment (HSE) indicators relate to national and international production, sales and administration sites and cover around 95 percent of consolidated companies. The reporting period is the financial year from 1 January to 31 December.

We are aware that the data pool used to determine HSE indicators is subject to uncertainties. This is due to the nature of the data itself and the limitations of conducting checks at regional and local level. Some indicators are based on measurement methods which can vary, others are based on estimates and calculations that have to be continually updated. We constantly strive to evolve the quality and scope of our key indicators. In 2011, for example, we updated our training offering for CR data managers, integrating aspects such as the findings from the external assurance process on our key performance indicators.

For the third year in succession, we obtained an assurance report for selected HSE indicators from KPMG Sustainability.

We highlight any indicators that are also included in the Linde AG 2010 Annual Report. The Group Management Report was audited by KPMG AG Wirtschaftsprüfungsgesellschaft.
